About “Storage Solutions”

  1. What was your motivation for writing “Storage Solutions”?

The story came from a shopping trip to buy some flat-pack furniture and a recurring dream of being on Death Row.

  1. What do you want people to walk away with after reading “Storage Solutions”?

The idea that what is sold to us as ‘protection’ is, more often than not, just oppression in a fancy new wrapper.

Reading

  1. What are you currently reading?

Ian Rankin’s Rebus books – the literary equivalent of heroin.

  1. Do you have a favourite book? If so, what is it?

Too many to mention, but the following books – Ghost Story by Peter Straub, Nineteen Eighty Four by George Orwell, House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski, Star of the Sea by Joseph O’Connor, and The Book Thief by Markus Zusak – would all hover around the top ten.

  1. Do you gravitate towards reading genres outside the ones you write?

I think it’s important to read widely – confining yourself to one genre would be like eating nothing but hamburgers for the rest of your life.

Writing

  1. Why do you write?

Because I can’t sing and I’m lousy on the guitar.

  1. What do you love about being a writer?

The fame, the groupies and the untold riches that shower down upon me on a daily basis.

  1. What time of the day do you write, and do you have a writing routine?

I work shifts in a factory; I tend to write in the wee small hours when I get home.

  1. Where do you get your ideas from?

I usually buy them in bulk from Amazon.
